Today is the 7th of January, which for those of us in Spain and some parts of South America, it is a public holiday. It is the day which marks the end of the festivities of christmas time for another year. The children of my friends and neighbours woke yesterday to the gifts they had received from the three kings and my street was filled with their laughter as they played in the sunshine. My own grown children have now returned to their homes, and this small town seems very quiet without the extra relatives it has hosted for the past week or two.
No more carols blasting from the town hall , no more cars jamming the narrow streets. Just a very peaceful sort of silence as everyone catches their breath, ready to start another year of work or school. The decorations in the plaza will be taken down, the stalls for crafts and food will be packed away, and life will return to normal.
I too am getting ready to return to my normal schedule of work. I have already started on my new painting, and it is coming along nicely. I hope to have it completed today and ready to show you all tomorrow. This painting is about gratitude, and it seemed like a fitting subject to paint as my first work for 2013. I finally managed to buy some more large canvases over the holidays, so this first painting will be a large one, which is my favorite size to paint. I am also back to my online work, and of course, this blog.
I hope to be able to have enough original paintings to finally put together my exhibition this year. I had hoped to be ready by this month, but I sold quite a few originals during the summer months and have actually sold another just a few days ago. This is of course a good thing, but it does mean that my collection of work is not growing as quickly as it should. I am aiming to have enough by the summer, and hopefully even a little sooner.
I am really looking forward to this year and I have the feeling it is going to be a good one. Already, only seven days into it, a few things have fallen nicely into place for me, and I´m feeling very optimistic. I haven´t made any new year resolutions because I have never stuck to them before, and I´m sure I won´t this year . I simply plan on carrying on doing what I always do which is spending most of my time painting; but still, there is that feeling that something extra good is going to happen this year…….
So the peace of this day suits me very well. It is a day to rest and get back into the normal routine. I enjoyed christmas, new year and kings day very much, and I give a big thanks to the friends and family that helped to make it such a lovely time. I loved that my children stayed with me over the holidays, and as always I enjoyed the company and the fun. Now I feel renewed and ready to start work again. I hope you all had a great break too and feel equally ready to face 2013……
Enjoy your day everyone,
